As we draw closer to the winter equinox, (Dec 21) the days are getting shorter and shorter. This lack of light can dramatically affect our mood and energy levels.
It can trigger feelings of irritability, pessimism, fatigue and general mental fogginess. We tend to sleep more, crave sugar and carbohydrates and seek stimulants outside of ourselves to cope with less light.
5 Ways to Keep Your Energy Up this Winter
Stimulate your Pineal Gland
The pineal gland sits in the center of your head and is shaped like a pinecone. The ancients called it the seat of the soul. The pineal gland is influenced by light – with less light it will begin secreting melatonin which makes one sleepy. Here is a meditation that will stimulate your pineal gland and rid you of mental sluggishness.
Be in the Flow with Your Natural Rhythms
This time of year is calling you to go within and become more internal. Slow down, consolidate your energy and take this time for more self-reflection through journalling and meditation.
Stimulate Sun Energy
Begin breathing only through your right nostril. Block off your left nostril with your thumb all other fingers point up. Sitting up with a straight spine begin breathing long and deep. 5 sec inhale, 5 sec hold and 5 sec exhale. Do this anywhere when you feel down and need a pick me up.
Honor the Light
Go outside each day to receive the outside light that is available. Be sure to expose your forehead to the light. The forehead bone is porous and functions to transmit light to the pineal gland of the brain.
Connect with Your Own Inner Sun
According to ancient yogis we all have an inner sun located in the solar plexus. Practice Kundalini Yoga and Meditation to connect with your inner light and spread your radiance to all around you.

The intensity of life seems to have amped up a few notches this month.
As a humanity, we are experiencing major challenges and old ways of coping are no longer working. These challenges can be experienced as insomnia, anxiety, accidents, not enough time, addictions, health crisis, relationship upsets or financial difficulties.
CHANGE IS NOW RAPID AND MOVING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT.
With all these changes, we may feel stress. Underneath the stress is fear. This fear is the fear of the Unknown. What’s coming next? Can I handle another change in my life?
Once you understand that fear is simply an energy - a force – then can you transmute this energy for your soul’s journey.
5 Ways to Transmute Fear
1. Embrace the Mystery
The ancient yogis say that only 20% is known to our conscious mind and 80% is unknown to us. This 80% is what causes a lot of our fear. Embrace that 80% unknown in every situation – trust the Divine is guiding you each and every moment. Imagine yourself as a great adventurer on planet earth – a spiritual being here to have grand adventure.
2. Pranayam
One of the ten yogic bodies is called the Pranic Body. A strong Pranic Body keeps fear at bay. Consciously breathing will strengthen your Pranic Body. Slow down your breath. Inhale ten seconds. Suspend the breath for ten seconds and exhale ten seconds.
3. Kundalini Yoga Meditation
When you feel overwhelmed by life – practice this meditation anywhere or anytime. You can do this in as little as three minutes. MEDITATION TO RELIEVE FEAR. (3 MINS)
4. Take a respite from the news
Including newspapers, television and Internet. Read inspiring and uplifting books.
5. Express Yourself
There is a misconception that we are the only ones feeling fear and everyone else has it all together. We all feel the same range of emotions. Be authentic with trusted people in your life – share some your worries and fears – you will be surprised how similar we all are.

Everyone knows someone whose dog ‘walks them’ – the dog jumps on everyone, eats garbage, barks nonstop and is in a word unruly. The dog owner usually has the sheepish look of, “Oh well what can you do? The dog does what it does’’. In truth, all the dog needs is a little discipline and leadership and it can be transformed from monster to angel. This same principle can be said for our own mind.
The mind can be like the nightmare dog, pulling us left and right with non stop thoughts and making us chew on garbage like gossip and negativity. We incessantly ‘bark’ – speaking whatever is on the mind and jumping on others with wrong assumptions and projections. Our mind was never meant to be our Master – it is the given Servant to our soul’s journey
We are now in the Information Age, our mind’s sensitivity is increasing and will not be able to manage all the information coming at us. You may already be feeling overwhelmed by your mountain of daily e-mails, Twitter, Facebook, television and cell phones. There doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. This information overload is only going to increase.
5 Things you can do right now to Be the Pack Leader of your own Mind.
The best and most efficient way to become the leader of your mind is to meditate. Meditation gives you a relationship with your mind otherwise you believe that you are the one thinking and get lost in the thoughts of the mind. The mind generates thousands of thoughts at the wink of an eye – that is its job. You choose what thoughts you attach yourself to.
Breathe – the mind must obey the breath – slow down your breath and slow down the mind. Inhale 10 sec, Hold 10 sec and Exhale 10 sec
Mantra – man (mental) tra (vibration) will soothe the waves of the mind through vibration – mentally vibrate or chant out loud Sa Ta Na Ma a powerful sound current that cuts through your ego so you can experience your divinity
Meditate – go to a Kundalini Yoga and Meditation class near you – or another meditational practice
Daily Sadhana – cultivate a daily spiritual practice for yourself. Get up early in the morning to start your day the right way — every day
Nature - move away from electronic gadgets, move out of the mind and look at nature: trees, sky, birds – tune into the stillness and peace

Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini Yoga, said during the cusp period between the Piscean Age and the Aquarian Age – humanity would be feeling a state of mind called Cold Depression. In this state you are not aware that you are depressed – it is a low level apathy. Nothing seems to matter – everything feels empty. One of the MAJOR STEPS on the Spiritual Path is Forgiveness – in fact it is impossible not to go into a state of forgiveness and walk this path of light.
“90% of our problems would disappear if we just forgave our earthly mother and earthly father.”
- Yogi Bhajan (the master of Kundalini Yoga)
You may say that you do not have issues with your earthly mother or earthy father and you do not think about them much. This wound plays out in ways that you do not realize – beneath the surface at the subconscious level. You will play this out with people in positions of authority – your boss, supervisor and even your spouse. You will play this out with people who you perceive as having more power than you – the captain of your sports team, band leader, any person who is the leader of a group that you belong.
Some thing will happen in the relationship dynamic and this wound will come to the surface leaving you feeling small, angry and disempowered. It really isn’t about the actual person, it is about any unresolved issues with your the earthly mother and earthly father. We are entering the Age of Truth, the Aquarian Age, and all of these wounds need to come to the surface so that they can be healed. A wound will not heal unless it is first exposed the light and air.
When we are born, our first teacher is our mother and the second teacher is our Father.
What is the correct role of the Father?
Protection - The strength of his electromagnetic field (aura) protects the family and provides security.
Values - He teaches you values and virtues.
Manifestation – He teaches you how to make your way in the world – how to manifest money – take care of yourself materially.
Move through Time & Space – He teaches you how to penetrate through time and space so that you can do your destiny with a smile.
Achieve Goals - He gives you the strength, grit and discipline you need in life to achieve your goals. The father gives you the confidence and self-esteem to walk this path with dignity.
Any blocks we have around manifesting money, career, or taking care of ourselves materially goes back to issues with the earthly father. In the Piscean age, most fathers were not present in the home – physically or emotionally and perhaps were children themselves. Most of us have experienced the pain and grief of the abandonment of the father and have felt betrayed by the lack of healthy male role models in the world.
Yogi Bhajan also said that it our divine right to transfer our security from our earthly father and earthly mother to our Divine Mother and Heavenly Father.
In the Aquarian Age (2012), everything that we need is already inside of us. It is the archetypal energy of the Heavenly Father that we connect with to manifest our earthly security and protection. Then we begin to give to ourselves what we did not receive from our earthy father. We give ourselves the grit, stamina and discipline to move through all the resistances in life with a smile. We give to ourselves the self-confidence and self-esteem to go after our goals and do our destiny.
When we transfer our security over in this way, we remove our earthly father from GOD status – a position he could never live up to.
Forgiveness is an acceptance of the past. Forgiveness is to accept that your earthly father did the best he could with what he had. Forgiveness is to acknowledge that you did the best you could with what you had. With forgiveness, you call back all your energy from the past so that you can create in the present. One of the greatest acts of self-love is forgiveness – not a favor we do for someone else, but a precious gift we give to ourselves.

Meditation for Self- Acceptance
In the Aquarian Age, we realize that there are no enemies outside of us any longer – the real enemy can be found inside each one of us.
When you become more self-aware through your meditational practice, you will soon discover that within you lives a battleground. It’s like having an entire village of voices inside of you – each one clamoring for power and control.
